Practice Interview Program

UChicago Career Advancement supports your preparation for success whether interviewing for an internship, a post-graduation job, or admission to graduate or professional school! Currently enrolled College students have access to virtual mock interviews available by appointment and 24-hour web-based practice interviews available through Big Interview.

Virtual Practice Interviews

The Practice Interview Program provides remote mock interviews for undergraduate students who seek interview preparation for internships, full-time positions, and selective enrollment programs. Designed to feel like a real interview, practice interviews are scheduled for 1 hour and will be conducted by trained graduate students with professional industry experience, who will assess the effectiveness of responses and provide valuable and objective feedback on interview skills.

Virtual Practice Interviews

Starting Week 2 of Fall 2020 quarter, students can schedule an industry-specific practice interview in Handshake in the following industries:

  • Case Consulting
  • Investment Banking
  • Quantitative Technical and Software Engineering

How to Schedule an Industry-Specific Practice Interview with Career Advancement

  1. Login into Handshake.
  2. Select the "Career Center" tab, "Schedule a New Appointment", and "Practice Interview".
  3. You will have the option to select one of the following:
    1. Case Consulting Practice Interview
    2. Investment Banking Practice Interview
    3. Technical Practice Interview
  4. Select a timeslot and click the REQUEST button.

How to Schedule a General Behavioral Practice Interview with Career Advancement

  1. Login into Handshake.
  2. Select the "Career Center" tab, "Schedule a New Appointment", "General Career Advising", and "Interview Preparation Advising".
  3. Select a times lot.
  4. You will be asked: "What can we help you with?". Please type in "General Behavioral Practice Interview Requested" in this line.
  5. You will be asked: "Is there a specific interview you are preparing for? If so, what company or department is your interview with?. Enter N/A if this does not apply to you.
  6. Click the REQUEST button.

Email your resume, cover letter, and job description (if applicable) to the Practice Interviewer at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment (email is listed in profile in Handshake).

All practice interviews are held virtually, and the Practice Interviewer will coordinate the Zoom meeting information directly with the student.

Late Cancellation and No Show Policy

Late cancellations or No Shows for a virtual practice interview will result in deactivation from Handshake. If you need to cancel, please do so within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment in Handshake and/or alert your practice interviewer via email.
